Naturally, the most widely used natural fibre is wool – either in pure form or more frequently blended with manmade fibres. Quite simply, wool is the classic carpet fibre: resilient, warm, comfortable, fire retardant and, in the right pile-density, will give years of excellent service.
Other natural fibres include seagrass, coir and sisal, all of which are enjoying a fashion revival. Mainly available in a natural look, especially in loop pile, they are great-looking, hardwearing and reasonably inexpensive.
